ICT Tools for Literacy Learning
Nadine Mackereth and Jenny Deed

Workshop Outline:
You’ve got the camera, the easi-speak and the pod of laptops with internet access, but how can you use them meaningfully to help your students achieve in Literacy? The session is aimed at sharing practical ideas to hook, motivate and enhance the achievement of your students in reading and writing.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Nadine is a Year 4 /5 teacher at Ramarama School. This is her fourth year teaching in the Middle-Senior Section. She is currently the Inquiry Learning Lead teacher.
Jenny is a Year 2 teacher at Ramarama School. This is also her fourth year teaching at the Junior level. Jenny has been using many e-Learning ideas and tools with her class that she has gained from the Learning @ School Conference this year.

iMovie-Green screening
Alex Hanson

Workshop Outline:
In this breakout we will look at the basics of iMovie with a focus on green screening. You will learn how to transpose yourself into new backgrounds. I will briefly cover how to import a movie, add photos, add titles and transitions and also how to record sound. Please bring your own Mac with imovie ’11, a camera and cord.

Alex is a Year 5 teacher and e-leader at Papatoetoe Central School. She is in her 7th year of teaching. She has experience teaching Years 4-6 and has spent a year teaching in London.

Blogging for Beginners
Angela Stonestreet and Kristie Kurn

Workshop Outline:
This break out will cover the basics of blogging. How to set up your blog using Blogger.com (if you haven’t already), how to upload photos, add widgets, add favourite websites and how to bling your blog with fancy borders.
Please bring a couple of photos you want to add to your blog eg on a USB. We will provide computers for you to use.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Angela is in her fourth year of teaching at Papatoetoe Central School. She currently has a Year 3 class and has also taught at other junior levels. Angela has spent 4 years teaching English in Japan.
Kristie is currently in her fourth year of teaching at Everglade School. She has experience teaching in a Year 5 & 6 class and has also had two years experience with Year 2.

Practical ideas for using e-Tools in a Junior classroom.
Nathalie Irvine

Workshop Outline:
Come and get basic ideas about how I use computers, digital cameras and Easi-Speaks in a Year 1 classroom.
Walk away with resources, websites, and inspiration about how you can start using these tools in your Reading, Writing and Maths programmes. A little bit of effort, a tiny bit of preparation and lots of motivation for young learners!

Nathalie is currently in her 10th year of teaching and works at Everglade Primary School. She is the Year 1 Team Leader and one of 3 e-Leaders in the school. She has experience teaching Year 0-4 students and has spent 4 years teaching in London.

Come and view how I organise my e-environment. You will see how I use teacher and student task boards to support my Literacy and Numeracy programme. You will also see how I manage and organise my homework, using different e-tools and spaces (Blogs, Spelling City, Wallwisher) Walk away with practical and motivational ideas that support your classroom programme in authentic contexts.

Nikki is in her third year of teaching and is currently at Everglade School. She has experience in teaching Years 0-3. She is one of three e-leaders in her school. She has attended a lot of ICT focused conferences and is passionate about e-learning in the classroom.

Kate has been teaching for 6 years and is currently teaching a Year 5/ 6 class. She has had experience teaching Year 3-6 children. She has taught in a variety of school deciles and settings.

Using ICT to authentically integrate the learning competencies with Mathematics
Michelle Clarke and Lisa Harland

Workshop Outline:
Come along and hear about our school pilot programme for implementing the Learning / Key Competencies. The focus for this programme was on “Questioning”.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Michelle has been teaching for 4 years and is currently teaching a Year 7/8 class. She has had experience teaching Year 5-8 children.
Lisa is the A.P at Reremoana Primary School and has had experience teaching Year 4-8 students. She has taught in both State and Private Schools and has used ICT extensively throughout her career. She is passionate about Mathematics and this presentation combines her two great interests in a meaningful and authentic context.

A Whole School Inquiry – “Ramarama Footprints”
Heath McNeil

Workshop Outline:
This breakout will follow the process of a whole school inquiry completed last year.
The context was initiated through a Wikipedia page and was completed with a Living Heritage website resource. Our goal was to investigate an Inquiry that provided the students with real learning in meaningful contexts.
See how the community was involved in the process and how social action has continued to have an impact in our community of learners.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Heath is the Principal of Ramarama School. He has previously taught for five years in a 1 to 1 Notebook programme and has been an ICT facilitator in an ICTPD contract.

“K4S- May the Power be with You!”
Bringing the key competencies to life in your classroom
Vicky Joplin

Workshop Outline:
This workshop will explore the Key Competencies, our Keys for Success programme (K4’S) and include lots of practical ideas for how you could bring the Key Competencies to life in your classroom.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Vicky was part of the Pilot Key Competency programme in Blenheim in 2006 in preparation for the new curriculum. She believes that curriculum content provides the vehicle for building competence capacity. Imagine only having to teach 5 things!
Vicky is Principal of Waiuku Primary School and is passionate about how we can build Key Competencies into the heart of our delivery.

e-Learning Tools to enhance & raise achievement in Writing
Rebecca Perrott and Rachel Boyd

Workshop Outline:
This workshop will demonstrate and show 3 different web tools and how they can enhance and raise student achievement in writing for Year 5-8 students. See classroom examples of the use of each tool and explore ideas for use with your own students in Term 3.

Presenter Backgrounds:
Rebecca is a year 5/6 teacher and Team Leader at Waiuku Primary. She has been teaching for 9 years over a range of year levels and deciles across South Auckland.
Rachel is the DP with responsibility for e Learning and a Year 2 classroom teacher at Waiuku Primary. She will be supporting Rebecca & participants in the “hands on” part of the workshop.

e-Leaders in the Classroom-using students to lead e-Learning/ICT
Carolyn Edwards

Workshop Outline:
This workshop will explore how to build, train and get your more able students to lead e Learning/ICT in your class. Learn how your students can plan and lead mini projects to aid in Oral Language, Written Language and improve their presenting skills.
From taking photos, using digital voice recorders (Easi speak) and uploading content to the blog, your students can help!
Scaffold and assist students to become mini e Leaders and they can train/teach the other children in your class, freeing up time for yourself in the classroom!

Presenter Backgrounds:
Carolyn is a Y3/4 teacher and an e-Leader from Waiuku Primary. She is keen on ICT and what it can do for the engagement and learning in your classroom. Carolyn has responsibility for mentoring and supporting teachers in their
e-Learning. She has come from England with lots of experience with Active Boards. Her passion is giving students the responsibility for their own learning and creating digital citizens who are confident and able to use a wide range of technologies effectively. Carolyn has an able class and has been enjoying building students’ leadership capacities by training them up to be mini e-leaders within her classroom. She says she is a ‘lazy’ teacher as she likes the children to do all the work!
